Air Date: Monday, April 15, 2018 (8-10pm)
It's time for the second and final celebrity duets episode in the semifinals of American Idol season 16. There ended up being quite a few great performances, and some I just want to watch over and over again. Here's my Twitter recap for The Top 24 (Part 2)--Celebrity Duets...

Week 2 of the #AmericanIdol semifinals comes to an end tonight--here's my thoughts on all the celebrity duet performances from the second half of the Top 24... #Idol #IdolDuets #IdolTop24— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Caleb Lee Hutchinson & Bebe Rexha ("Meant to Be"): Just like last night, he still sounds like a generic country singer. The two of them did sound good together. Unfortunately for Caleb, Bebe's vocals are so great that I focused in on listening to her voice more. #Idol #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Ada Vox & Lea Michele ("Defying Gravity"): Hearing Lea's voice on this, I have flashbacks to her & Chris Colfer singing this on #Glee. And how can you not love this song? One of the best moments from #Wicked. Ada & Lea absolutely killed it--I have nothing bad to say! #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Maddie Poppe & Colbie Caillat ("Bubbly"): Such a feel-good song. And it's fitting Maddie's singing this as a follow-up to "Brand New Key" from Sunday; both songs have vaguely similar vibes, and she's developing her musical style really nicely. Great tone! #Idol #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Ron Bultongez & Banners ("Someone to You"): Tonight proved that last night's solo performance by Ron wasn't a fluke--they sounded fine together & had fun, but his solo parts tonight were very average. I don't see how he can advance. #AmericanIdol #IdolDuets #Idol #IdolTop24— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Amelia Hammer Harris & Bebe Rexha ("Me Myself & I"): I really liked this! Their unique musical styles meshed really well together, and they played off each other in a fantastic way. I've been a fan of Amelia's since her audition. So much better than Sun. #AmericanIdol #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Shannon O’Hara & Cam ("Burning House"): At first I wasn't sure (maybe she hasn't fully found her footing yet), but then things quickly clicked into place & I just sat back and took it all in, sometimes closing my eyes & really feeling it. Very lovely. #AmericanIdol #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Alyssa Raghu & Banners ("Yellow"): I said last night while there were some really good moments it didn't 100% click. Tonight it didn't fully come together yet again. Not the right song for her. I'm disappointed she's not living up to her full potential. #AmericanIdol #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Marcio Donaldson & Allen Stone ("What’s Going On"): Marcio had the best performance of the night last night so it was impossible for him to top it tonight. The 1st half was laidback, the 2nd half was fantastic--great falsetto! & Allen Stone sounded great! #AmericanIdol #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Jurnee & Lea Michele ("Run to You"): Everything worked--the pairing, the voices together, the song--it all fit just right. They were exquisite, and I'm really happy for Jurnee after this performance. The best of the night so far! Can they do it again? #AmericanIdol #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Garrett Jacobs & Colbie Caillat ("Lucky"): I'm on the fence here. Both nights his vocals haven't been on point--he sounded froggy at times or something. I mean, the overall feel of the performance w/ Colbie was lovely, but I don't know. #AmericanIdol #IdolDuets #Idol #IdolTop24— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Mara Justine & Rachel Platten ("Fight Song"): One of my favorite modern pop songs! They pulled back from the big moments of the original, which was an unexpected but nice change. By the end, I had a big smile on my face--I loved this! Good for you, Mara! #AmericanIdol #IdolDuets— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
Effie Passero & Cam ("Diane"): Again, I really liked this! Their voices came together really well. Effie may be a rocker, but she's got the kind of voice that ended up sounding great alongside a country singer like Cam. #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolDuets #IdolTop24— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
My favorites of the night: Jurnee, Ada Vox, Maddie Poppe & Mara Justine.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 17, 2018
The weakest of the night: Ron Bultongez, Alyssa Raghu & Garrett Jacobs.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolDuets #IdolTop24
