Air Date: Sunday, April 15, 2018 (8-10pm)
It's the second week of the American Idol season 16 semifinals! Now the second half of the Top 24 have just taken to the stage to perform for everyone. How did they all do? Here's my Twitter recap of The Top 24 (Part 2)--Solos, with my thoughts on all of the performances...

The #AmericanIdol continue tonight with 12 more solo performances! My thoughts on all of the performances are in this thread... #Idol #IdolTop24 #IdolSolos— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Amelia Hammer Harris ("Believer"): After her audition I said she's one to keep an eye on. Tonight, she's just okay. I'm disappointed she wasn't better. Great song but not right fit for her--it negatively affected her vocals. I hope she stays but song choice is key! #IdolSolos— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018

Garrett Jacobs ("Treat You Better"): Great song, & in theory he could've been great on it. But in reality, it didn't quite click. His vocals weren't always on point. That high note made me cringe. He said he was gonna strip it down but he didn't; he didn't make it his own. #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Maddie Poppe ("Brand New Key"): I LOVE this song! (I first heard it when Katharine McPhee covered it on an album.) It's such a fun song & you could tell Maddie enjoyed singing it. Not sure if this is the style she wants to do but it fit her so well. #AmericanIdol #IdolSolos #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Ada Vox ("Feeling Good"): I wasn't sure at first because the first half was good but passable. But it's the 2nd half where Ada really came alive & delivered some power on that stage. (BTW, I still remember/love #AdamLambert's version.) #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop24 #IdolSolos— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Caleb Lee Hutchinson ("Die a Happy Man"): I don't have much to say here. This was straight-up generic country. I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised b/c Thomas Rhett is a generic country singer. Vocals were fine, I guess, but super forgettable. #AmericanIdol #IdolSolos #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Effie Passero ("Barracuda"): I have a soft spot for Effie. And how can you not love Heart's "Barracuda"? There were some spots where her vocals weren't always spot-on, but this was still a lot of fun and I was getting into it. #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolSolos #IdolTop24— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Alyssa Raghu ("Stay"): This is one of those songs where I can easily close my eyes & just get lost in the melody--there were a few times I did that here. However, overall, it didn't 100% click, though that doesn't mean it was bad. #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop24 #IdolSolos— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Marcio Donaldson ("Inseparable"): Right from the first note, I'm thinking, ooh, this could be really good--and it was! I said Alyssa didn't 100% click w/ her song; Marcio 100% connected to this song. And those low notes--whoa! Maybe the best of the night so far! #Idol #IdolSolos— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Mara Justine ("Run to You"): Standing completely still, showing vocal restraint, in a full gown, the first half of this performance impressed me. However, about halfway through her voice started to swerve off just a tad--it wasn't as spot-on. #AmericanIdol #IdolSolos #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Jurnee ("Flashlight"): She's been one of my favorites, and that didn't change after tonight. Her voice remains beautiful sounding, she drew me in right away and I actually wish the performance had gone on longer than it did. #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop24 #IdolSolos— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Shannon O’Hara ("All I Ask"): She started off in her lower register, which wasn't good (most singers have a hard time with this). But once she left that range quickly, everything improved drastically. There was at least one line she sang that really hit me. #AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
Ron Bultongez ("Dancing on My Own"): I'm not sure what to make of this. I mean, there were a few good moments. But I just didn't really get this. I'm interested to see if his duet tomorrow night will improve him in my eyes. #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop24 #IdolSolos— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
My favorites of the night: Marcio Donaldson, Maddie Poppe & Jurnee.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2018
The weakest of the night: Garrett Jacobs & Ron Bultongez.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop24 #IdolSolos
Just like last week, now that this second half of the Top 24 have performed their solos, they'll be paired up with celebrity artists for duets. And at the end of the night, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie will eliminate five contestants, leaving us with our Top 14. See ya then...
