American Idol 16: Top 10 Revealed
Air Date: Monday, April 23, 2018 (8-10pm)
The Top 10 have been revealed! America (myself included) voted six artists into the Top 10. And the remaining contestants sang for the final four spots, as chosen by the judges.
Here's my Twitter recap for The Top 10 Revealed...
[More: American Idol 16 Twitter Recap: The Top 14 Perform]
The Top 10 are revealed on tonight's #AmericanIdol! 6 will advance based on our votes from last night's show, and then the judges will fill the remaining 4 spots based on new performances tonight. Here are my thoughts... #Idol #IdolTop10— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
The first contestant finding out the results is Maddie Poppe--and she is safe! (She performs a victory song...)— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Walk Like an Egyptian": The feel of this song is really fitting for Maddie's style. She was particularly strong vocally during the chorus.#AmericanIdol #Idol
Michelle Sussett is in danger and must sing for one of the judges' 4 spots...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"I'm a Dreamer": Ugh. Once again, Michelle's mediocre voice was on full display. She in no way deserves to be in the Top 10.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10
Marcio Donaldson's also in danger and singing for a spot...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Jealous": I'm not sure if this is the best song choice for him, but he did have some nice moments spread throughout, but I'm not sure if this was enough, especially after his weak performance on Sunday.#AmericanIdol
Cade Foehner is in the Top 10! Time for his victory performance...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Bright Lights": While Cade is not a bad singer in any way, shape or form, it's becoming obvious that he's a better performer than a singer. He was his usual rocker self here, which people obviously love.#Idol
Garrett Jacobs is in the danger zone...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Have You Ever Seen the Rain": After last night, this wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. He sounded better on a song that was a little more suited to his voice. Not perfect and won't remember this.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10
Gabby Barrett is in the Top 10! The biggest no-brainer of the night. Here's her victory performance...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Little Red Wagon": One of Miranda Lambert's most fun songs--and Gabby had a blast singing this! I had fun watching her. Did I mention how fun this was?#Americanidol #Idol
Dennis Lorenzo is in the danger zone...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"This Woman's Work": Not just anyone can pull of this song. But Dennis has the voice for it--and those exquisite falsettos--beautiful! Forget last night...he deserves a Top 10 spot based on tonight's performance alone.#AmericanIdol #Idol
Jonny Brenns is in the danger zone...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Demons": Jonny is one of the weakest contestants on the show. But he actually had more nice moments in this performance than I expected, based on what we've seen before. However, I still don't think it'll be enough.#AmericanIdol #Idol
Caleb Lee Hutchinson is in the Top 10! Got this wrong but not surprised. His victory performance...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Gettin' You Home": Another purely country & purely Caleb performance. Nothing more to say since it's obvious he's not going to change it up at all or have a breakout moment.#Idol
Mara Justine is in the danger zone...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Love on the Brain": This is a tough one. The judges have really liked her this season, which could help her. And I did enjoy this for the most part. But I worry that "Fight Song" was/will be her one and only moment.#AmericanIdol #Idol
Jurnee is in the danger zone (judges, please save her!)...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Never Enough": Last night, she may have been off the mark from her usual self, but this ballad should hopefully save her, even though wasn't perfect. Again, judges, save her!#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10
Michael J. Woodard is in the Top 10! Victory performance....— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Believe in Yourself": I wasn't sure at first and he wasn't perfect vocally overall, but the second half is where he really came alive & I enjoyed it.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10
Catie Turner is in the Top 10! (She stepped up last night when it counted.) Victory performance...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"Havana": What is going on with her this wk? Last night/tonight, she's finally showing us that she wants this. I liked her tone & phrasing here, proving why she deserved this.#Idol
That means Ada Vox is in the danger zone...— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
"And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going": An obvious song choice since Ada always picks big showstoppers. While this wasn't perfect vocally, I don't see how Ada doesn't advance at this point.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10
The 1st results from the judges:— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
The judges don't even need time to deliberate; they immediately send Ada Vox into the Top 10!#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10
The Judges' Advance to the Top 10 (aside from Ada):— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
Jurnee (yay yay yay!),
Michelle Sussett (WTF?!?! Stop it! America, eliminate her right away next week!),
Dennis Lorenzo.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10

Marcio Donaldson (incorrect)

Jonny Brenns (correct)
Mara Justine (incorrect)
I got 3 of my elimination predictions wrong and 1 right.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10
I'm essentially fine with everyone who's in the Top 10--except for one. Michelle Sussett not only doesn't deserve to be in the Top 10, she didn't deserve to be in the Top 14 or Top 24, and, in fact, she should not have even made it past the auditions.#AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 24, 2018
As you can see by that last tweet, I'm not happy with one of the finalists. But, hey, now America has a chance to right that wrong by eliminating her next Sunday night, when the Top 10 will perform for our votes and three will be eliminated (since three are heading home, there's a greater chance that her journey will be over--let's hope!)
Speaking of which, there's a big announcement...American Idol has made history and broken records over the years, and they're about to do it again. For the next three weeks, Idol will make history as the very first competition show ever to air LIVE in every time zone at the same exact time. So that means when the show airs live at 8pm on the East Coast, it'll be live at 5pm on the West Coast where I am! I'm really excited by this since I'll be able to live-tweet as it's airing instead of delayed like I normally have to do. See ya then...
