The semifinals have begun for the 17th (!!!) season of the best singing competition show ever--American Idol!

Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are back for their second go-round. The auditions, Hollywood Week and the Showcase/Final Judgment are behind us, which means they have narrowed the field down to 20.

Like I always do for the semifinals and finals, I'm providing my thoughts on all the performances. And like last year, I'm doing it all on Twitter as the episodes are airing--and then compiling them all together into blog posts.

It's the season 16 finale of American Idol! Two years ago, we thought we were saying goodbye to this show, and now it's time to crown another winner!

When the show was on before, I posted recaps online, initially on one of my blogs and then on other entertainment websites. But this season, I decided to try something different; I've been tweeting my thoughts on all the performances while watching. And, in fact, this new recapping method for me has ended up working really well, particularly because the show went live in every time zone for a few weeks, allowing me to truly live-tweet and experience this show in the moment with everyone else.

It's finale week! American Idol season 16 is about to come to a close, and the final three singers performed for the final time on Sunday night. They've all performed, I've voted and now it's time to wait with bated breath to see who will win it all.

Theme: Disney Night

It's time for the finals to begin! The Top 10 were revealed last week, and now these 10 remaining contestants only have America to save them now. And speaking of America, Idol made history tonight as the first reality competition show ever to air live in every time zone in the country. This really is unprecedented. Because I live on the West Coast, I've never truly been able to watch my favorite show live -- until now -- and I live-tweeted every step of the way.

Not only are these next three weeks live everywhere, but viewers are able to vote in real time, with the results being announced at the end of the episode. That's what happened tonight, as the Top 10 performed Disney songs, and three finalists were eliminated.
