Air Date: Sunday, April 14, 2019 (8-10:01pm)
The auditions, Hollywood Week, Showcase, Top 20 and Celebrity Duets are all behind us. Now it's time for the Top 14 to perform on American Idol. That means it's time for us the viewers to vote for the first time in season 17. Based on our votes, seven contestants will advance to the Top 10. Then the judges will fill out the remaining three spots, based on redux performances.
Here is my Twitter recap for the Top 14...

It's the Top 14 on #AmericanIdol season 17--and time to start voting! Here's my thoughts on all 14 performances... #Idol #IdolTop14— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Laine Hardy ("That's All Right"): I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be here next week. But this was a pretty safe performance. His voice was good--nothing wrong to point out there, of course. I just hope he can come out swinging next time. #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop14— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Evelyn Cormier ("The Middle"): A fun song, but I wasn't feeling this at all. Her voice was very breathy quite a bit, which decreased the quality of the performance. So if that's how she's gonna sound maybe it was the wrong song choice for her particular voice. #AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Alyssa Raghu ("She Used to Be Mine"): Finally the show is starting with this performance. Alyssa's voice sounded absolutely beautiful--but I'm obviously not surprised. As the song went on, particularly the 2nd half, I kept getting drawn in--loved that extended note. #AmericanIdol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Eddie Island ("Bennie and the Jets"): When I saw his outfit, I thought he looks like Elton John. And what do you know, it's an Elton song! This one has been done to great effect on #Idol. However, this performance isn't one of them. His voice was just not good. #AmericanIdol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Riley Thompson ("Suds in the Bucket"): It's a fun song, and the genre (country) is obviously suited to her music style. Maybe others feel differently and that's fine, but I'm not sure about this as an overall performance. I still want to see more from her. #AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Wade Cota ("Trouble"): As soon as he sang the first note, I'm like, okay, I think I'm gonna like it--and overall, I did. Those lower notes didn't sound good, but outside of that, the big mid-range was great. And I could feel a connection between him and the lyrics. #AmericanIdol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Dimitrius Graham ("Perfect"): Once I heard what song it was, I was super hopeful that he'd pull it off. Unfortunately, it was quite boring up until the chorus hit--maybe the wrong arrangement? And even from the chorus on, I still wasn't on board. I don't know. #AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Madison Vandenburg ("Fallin'"): As soon as I heard that first note, I had a smile on my face--and it never left. This performance was absolutely fantastic! I was feeling it from start to finish. Best of the night so far! #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop14— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon ("We All Fall in Love Sometimes"): I love Elton John, but I'm not familiar with this song. That didn't matter, though, because he made me love it. Once again, bravo on another top-notch performance. His falsetto sounded exquisite! #AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Uche ("Finesse"): As I have mentioned before, he is an entertainer first and foremost. That summed up this performance, and it was everything I expected from him; it was dramatic, it had choreography. I wasn't sure at first but I quite enjoyed that. #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop14— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Alejandro Aranda ("One Dance"): Am I the only one who can't name a single #Drake song? He wasn't bad vocally but visually it looked like someone asked the DJ (or the band's keyboard player) to sing--he should have moved around the stage which would've livened it up. #AmericanIdol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Ashley Hess ("Fix You"): It's hard to go wrong with this Coldplay hit, especially if you have the talent to pull it off. There were some off notes every so often, which was unfortunate, but there were also moments I enjoyed--again, glad she was at the piano. #AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Laci Kaye Booth ("I Miss You"): I kept trying to figure out if I've heard this song before; I still don't know. But either way, Laci did a really good job with this. Her voice was soft and enticing--I found myself slowly moving my head to the beat. #AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop14— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Walker Burroughs ("Climb Ev'ry Mountain"): I don't get why he's still here. This song choice came out of nowhere. I don't get why they gave him the "pimp spot" tonight; it's as if the producers want him to stay--why? This wasn't good (maybe 1 or 2 good notes). #AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
My favorites of the night: Madison Vandenburg, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon & Alyssa Raghu.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
The weakest of the night: Evelyn Cormier, Eddie Island, Dimitrius Graham & Walker Burroughs.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop14

Top 10 Predictions:— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
Laine Hardy, Alyssa Raghu, Wade Cota, Madison Vandenburg, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Uche, Alejandro Aranda, Ashley Hess, Laci Kaye Booth & Walker Burroughs
Elimination Predictions:
Evelyn Cormier, Eddie Island, Riley Thompson & Dimitrius Graham#AmericanIdol
7 will stay. The rest will perform again; the judges will fill the other 3 spots, so things aren't set in stone. I'm most unsure of Wade & Dimitrius' chances. I don't want Walker there, but the judges love him. I want Riley to stay, but I'm not feeling too hopeful. #AmericanIdol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 15, 2019
The Top 14 have performed, and now it's up to America and the judges to choose the Top 10, which will be announced Monday night. See ya then...
