American Idol 17: Top 10 Revealed
Air Date: Monday, April 15, 2019 (8-10pm)
American Idol has locked in another group of Top 10 finalists! For season 17, viewers chose seven of the contestants, while the judges filled out the remaining three spots following additional performances.
Here is my Twitter recap for the reveal of the Top 10...
[More: American Idol 17 Twitter Recap: The Top 14 Perform]
The Top 10 will be revealed tonight on #AmericanIdol! 7 advance based on our votes from last night's episode. The rest will perform for the remaining spots chosen by the judges tonight. Here are my thoughts... #Idol #IdolTop14 #IdolTop10— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
Up first: Madison Vandenburg--and she's in the Top 10! (Yay!)— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"You and I": She's great as usual--those big notes are what we've come to expect from her. She almost broke down crying at the end. I would love to hear her do this song proper during the competition.#AmericanIdol
Next: Evelyn Cormier is in danger and has to sing for one of the final 3 spots.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Dust in the Wind": Can the judges please eliminate her? Once again, this is NOT good. I can't believe Ryan Hammond isn't here but mediocre talent is. I'm sorry, but this isn't right.#AmericanIdol
Walker Burroughs is...safe. Ugh. Not surprised, but why are they trying to make him happen?— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Love Bug": I really hope he leaves next week. I'm tired of highly talented singers being cut in previous rounds while people who have no business being here stick around.#AmericanIdol
Riley Thompson is in danger. I had a feeling this would happen.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"It Must Be Love": She got stronger as the performance went on, but the beginning (and certain moments throughout) wasn't quite up there. I would like to see her stay, but I doubt it's gonna happen.#AmericanIdol
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon is in the Top 10! (I'd have it no other way.)— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Almost Heaven": His voice...wow yet again. Seeing him at the piano, he might be starting to give Ashley Hess a run for her money in that department. Can't wait to see what he performs next week.#AmericanIdol
Alyssa Raghu is...in danger?!?!?! What? She had one of the best performances last night!— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"The One That Got Away": Nice sucking up with the #KatyPerry song. It doesn't hurt that she sounds great as usual. Judges, please save her!#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop14 #IdolTop10
Wade Cota is in the Top 10! I said this morning I was on the fence about his chances.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Simple Man": Fantastic song choice for his sound, though I think he should have saved this for a real competition performance b/c of how much it suits him.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop10
Dimitrius Graham is in danger. I'm not surprised--like w/ Wade, I was really unsure about his chances.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"When the Party's Over": There were some truly fantastic moments in this performance; that big note at the end--amazing! I wouldn't be surprised if the judges save him.#Idol
Laci Kaye Booth is in the Top 10! She's clearly becoming one of the viewers' favorites.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"As Long as You Follow": This wasn't quite as good as last night, but she got better as the performance went on and I was feeling it by the end. It doesn't matter, of course.#AmericanIdol
Eddie Island is in danger. Good. Now judges, please do the right thing. Katy isn't happy by the result, so I have this feeling she might save him.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Use Somebody": Great song choice, but he's butchering it! Cringe-worthy at times. Judges, please help me out here.#AmericanIdol
Ashley Hess is in danger. I'm disappointed by this. Looking back, maybe those off notes really did hurt her.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Sir Duke": If the judges base their decisions solely on tonight's performances, I don't know what's gonna happen w/ her. Some moments didn't suit her.#AmericanIdol
Laine Hardy is in the Top 10! (For a brief moment, I was worried going first would hurt him, but I always knew he had the support.)— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Hurricane": Last night he played it safe. Tonight, I'm really liking this performance! Loved the vibe of it all. Glad he's here.#AmericanIdol
Alejandro Aranda is in the Top 10. Wow. When it came down to him & Uche, I thought the latter would take it b/c of that showstopper last night, though we all know Alejandro has fans.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Cholo Love": I believe the on-screen text said this is his song. Good for him.#AmericanIdol
That means Uche is in danger. I guess America doesn't want an Entertainer w/ a capital E. It'll be interesting to see if the judges really want him to stay.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
"Diamonds": He seemed a little nervous. Loved the dramatic opening & arrangement. Nice falsetto @ the end.#AmericanIdol
The 1st Results From the Judges:#LionelRichie gets up on stage and puts Uche in the Top 10!— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
I had a feeling something like this would happen. The judges did the same thing last year w/ Ada Vox.#AmericanIdol #Idol #IdolTop14 #IdolTop10
The Judges Advance to the Top 10 (aside from Uche, Lionel's pick):#LukeBryan chooses Dimitrius Graham!#KatyPerry chooses Alyssa Raghu!!! (My jaw dropped then turned to a big smile--I was so worried Katy would make a bad decision, but she didn't!)#AmericanIdol #Idol— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019

Overall, this is a really strong Top 10.— Jeff Dodge (@TheJeffDodge) April 16, 2019
I still don't get what people see in Walker Burroughs. If he had been replaced by Ashley Hess (or even Riley Thompson), I'd love this group even more.
Looking forward to the show going live in all time zones on Sun!#AmericanIdol #Idol
As I said in my final tweet above, I think this is a pretty strong Top 10 overall.
And now that the Top 10 is set, it's time for Idol to go live in all time zones, just like they did last year. I really liked this new format (especially since I live on the West Coast) and can't wait for it to return. See ya then...
