Golden Globes 2013: My Predictions vs. Winners

Last night, NBC aired the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards. And out of the 25 categories in which awards were handed out, I got 16 correct, which is 64%. Once I counted everything up after the show ended, I actually thought this was still a pretty decent number, and it probably is. But when compared to last year's predictions, I did worse. Last year, I only missed six (76%). Oh, well--I'm still going to call it a success.

Below are the list of winners compared to my predictions:

Motion Pictures
Best Drama:
Argo
My Prediction:
Lincoln (-)

Best Actor--Drama:
Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln
My Prediction:
Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln (+)

Best Actress--Drama:

Best Supporting Actress:

My Prediction:

Best Supporting Actor:
Christoph Waltz, Django Unchained
My Prediction:
Leonardo DiCaprio, Django Unchained (-)

I got the right movie here, just the wrong actor.

Best Director:
Ben Affleck, Argo
My Prediction:
Steven Spielberg, Lincoln (-)

It's nice to see Ben Affleck get recognition here after being snubbed with the Oscar nominations.

Best Screenplay:
Django Unchained
My Prediction:
Lincoln (-)

Best Original Score:
Life of Pi
My Prediction:
Lincoln (-)

Best Original Song:
"Skyfall," Adele, Skyfall
My Prediction:
"Skyfall," Adele, Skyfall (+)

I'll admit, I've only listened to one of the nominated songs in this category, and it was "Skyfall." Usually, I go online and listen to all the nominees before making a final decision, but I all of a sudden ran out of time.

Best Animated Film:
Brave
My Prediction:
Frankenweenie (-)

I was under the assumption the race was between Frankenweenie and Wreck-It Ralph. But I'm so excited to see Brave win, because that movie is fantastic, and one of the better animated movies I've seen in quite a while.

Best Foreign Language Film:
Amour
My Prediction:
Amour (+)

8/14 on the movie side. As you can see, where I mostly went wrong was siding with Lincoln in many of the categories, except Argo took home the gold instead in many cases.

Television
Best Drama:
Homeland
My Prediction:
Homeland (+)

Best Comedy or Musical:
Girls
My Prediction:
Girls (+)

Best Actor--Drama:
Damian Lewis, Homeland
My Prediction:

Exciting to see Julianne Moore receive this recognition.

Best Supporting Actor:
Ed Harris, Game Change
My Prediction:
Mandy Patinkin, Homeland (-)

Best Supporting Actress:
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
My Prediction:
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey (+)

I don't watch Downton Abbey, but I love Maggie Smith, so congrats to her!

Best Actress--Comedy or Musical:
Lena Dunham, Girls
My Predictions:
Lena Dunham, Girls (+)

Best Actor--Comedy or Musical:
Don Cheadle, House of Lies
My Prediction:
Louis C.K., Louis (-)

Best Miniseries or Made for TV Movie:
Game Change
My Prediction:
Game Change (+)

I've read the book, and I'll finally be watching the film this upcoming weekend.

8/11 on the TV side.

Some of my favorite moments: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts--the HFPA absolutely needs to invite them back next year; Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell presenting together; Bill Clinton surprises when he comes out as a presenter; Jodie Foster's ambiguous coming out speech.
