Emmys 2014: My Predictions vs. Winners

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards were on Monday night, and I just have to start off by saying my success rate went way up this year! The past two years, I've been stuck at 33%, but this year, my predictions were correct 53.8% of the time! Finally!

So without further ado, here are the list of winners compared to my predictions:

Best Drama Series:
Breaking Bad
My Prediction:
Breaking Bad (+)

Best Comedy Series:
Modern Family
My Prediction:
Orange is the New Black (-)

Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series:
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
My Prediction:
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad (+)

Most of the predictions online this year were overwhelmingly in favor of Matthew McConaughey. But I stuck to my guns and went with Cranston. It reminds me of how last year, hardly anybody was predicting that Jim Parsons would win, but I did and ended up being right. Bryan Cranston 100% deserved this Emmy, as did Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn and the show as a whole. Now that I've seen the entire series (having finished it this summer), I was fully behind Breaking Bad winning anything and everything. That final season was quite something.

Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
My Prediction:
Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex (-)

I said this one was between Caplan and Margulies, so it was 50/50 and I went with the wrong side. Darn.

Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series:
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
My Prediction:
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory (+)

Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep

My Prediction:
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep (+)

I said I really wanted to hear her speech if she won, and she didn't disappoint, but the big moment didn't happen during the speech; it was as she was walking towards the stage and Bryan Cranston made out with her. Hilarious!

Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad

My Prediction:
Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad (+)

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
Anna Gunn, Breaking Bad

My Prediction:
Anna Gunn, Breaking Bad (+)

I said I wanted to get this category right this year after not predicting Gunn's win last year, so I'm glad to see she got it. So deserved.

Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series:
Ty Burrell, Modern Family

My Prediction:
Tony Hale, Veep (-)

No one was predicting Burrell would win.

Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:
Allison Janney, Mom

My Prediction:
Allison Janney, Mom (+)

I was so excited to see her win -- she's fantastic on Mom!

Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series:
Joe Morton, Scandal

My Prediction:
Joe Morton, Scandal (+)

I have no idea who Joe Morton is, so I'm surprised I got it right.

Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series:
Allison Janney, Masters of Sex

My Prediction:
Allison Janney, Masters of Sex (+)

Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series:
Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live

My Prediction:
Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live (+)

Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series:
Uzo Aduba, Orange is the New Black

My Prediction:
Laverne Cox, Orange is the New Black (-)

Best Miniseries:
Fargo

My Prediction:
Fargo (+)

Best Television Movie:
The Normal Heart

My Prediction:
The Normal Heart (+)

Best Lead Actor in a Miniseries of Movie:
Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock

My Prediction:
Billy Bob Thornton, Fargo (-)

Best Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie:
Jessica Lange, American Horror Story: Coven

My Prediction:
Cicely Tyson, The Trip to Bountiful (-)

I was certain AHS would be shut out this year; boy, was I wrong.

Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie:
Martin Freeman, Sherlock

My Prediction:
Matt Bomer, The Normal Heart (-)

This was one of the biggest upsets of the entire night. Whoa!

Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie:
Kathy Bates, American Horror Story: Coven

My Prediction:
Allison Tolman, Fargo (-)

No one expected anyone from AHS to win this one. So while I was shocked, I was pleasantly surprised and it's great to see Bates win. Even though Coven was the weaken AHS season, Bates was great.

Best Reality Competition Program:
The Amazing Race

My Prediction:
The Voice (-)

I am so so so happy I got this prediction wrong! Yay!

Best Non-Competition Reality Program (Structured Reality Program):
Shark Tank

My Prediction:
Undercover Boss (-)

Best Unstructured Reality Program:
Deadliest Catch

My Prediction:
Deadliest Catch (+)

Best Reality Show Host:
Jane Lynch, Hollywood Game Night

My Prediction:
Tom Bergeron, Dancing with the Stars (-)

Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series:
The Colbert Report

My Prediction:
The Colbert Report (+)

Best Variety, Music or Comedy Special:
