Emmys 2012: My Predictions vs. Winners

Last night, ABC aired the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards. Anyway...so how about that weather?

No? You don't want me to make a distraction? Okay ... well, out of the 24 major categories, I only got eight correct in my predictions this time around -- that's only 33%, people. And I thought last year was bad, where it was 46%. Am I getting worse every year or what? I seem to do better at the Golden Globes and at the Oscars, so I guess better luck next time for me?

I better just get it out of the way ... below are the list of winners compared to my predictions:

Best Drama:

Homeland
My Prediction:
Breaking Bad (-)

Best Comedy:
Modern Family
My Prediction:
Modern Family (+)

I think that would've been a shocker if they didn't win.

Best Lead Actor in a Drama:
Damian Lewis, Homeland
My Prediction:
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad (-)

Best Lead Actress in a Drama:
Claire Danes, Homeland
My Prediction:
Claire Danes, Homeland (+)

Best Lead Actor in a Comedy:
Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men
My Prediction:
Louis C.K., Louie (-)

From what I can recall reading online, nobody thought he had a chance of winning.

Best Lead Actress in a Comedy:
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
My Prediction:
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation (-)

Well, my idea of splitting it between the obvious choice and the underdog in the above two categories didn't work at all. With Jon Cryer's win, neither of the choices I was looking at won. And again, with splitting it, I should have picked the obvious choice for Lead Actress instead of for Lead Actor. But at least Amy Poehler had a part in Julia Louis-Dreyfus' acceptance speech--that was hilarious.

Best Supporting Actor in a Drama:
Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
My Prediction:
Giancarlo Esposito, Breaking Bad (-)

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama:
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
My Prediction:
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey (+)

Good for you, Maggie! It would have been great to have you in person to give a speech.

Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy:
Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family
My Prediction:
Ed O'Neill, Modern Family (-)

Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy:
Julie Bowen, Modern Family
My Prediction:
Kathryn Joosten, Desperate Housewives (-)

Best Guest Actor in a Drama:
Jeremy Davies, Justified
My Prediction:
Dylan Baker, The Good Wife (-)

Best Guest Actress in a Drama:
Martha Plimpton, The Good Wife
My Prediction:
Loretta Devine, Grey's Anatomy (-)

Best Guest Actor in a Comedy:
Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live
My Prediction:
Jon Hamm, 30 Rock (-)

Best Guest Actress in a Comedy:
Kathy Bates, Two and a Half Men
My Prediction:
Melissa McCarthy, Saturday Night Live (-)

Best Miniseries:
Game Change
My Prediction:
Game Change (+)

Best Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie:
Kevin Costner, Hatfields & McCoys
My Prediction:
Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia (-)

Best Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie:
Julianne Moore, Game Change
My Prediction:
Julianne Moore, Game Change (+)

Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie:
Tom Berenger, Hatfields & McCoys
My Prediction:
Ed Harris, Game Change (-)

Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie:
Jessica Lange, American Horror Story
My Prediction:
Jessica Lange, American Horror Story (+)

Best Competition Reality Show:
The Amazing Race
My Prediction:
The Amazing Race (+)

Best Non-Competition Reality Program:
Undercover Boss
My Prediction:
Antiques Roadshow (-)

Best Reality Show Host:
Tom Bergeron, Dancing with the Stars
My Prediction:
Ryan Seacrest, American Idol (-)

Again, my idea of going with the underdog didn't pay off. Since Jeff Probst wasn't nominated, I really had no idea who would win. If it wasn't going to be underdog Seacrest, I probably would've gone with Cat Deeley. So I was surprised to see Tom Bergeron win. Having said that, though, he is a strong host, I will give him that.

Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series:
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
My Prediction:
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (+)

Best Variety, Music or Comedy Special:
The Kennedy Center Honors
My Prediction:
Tony Bennett: Duets II (Great Performances) (-)
